This was an exciting day! Pouring concrete is a critical step in constructing a sturdy and durable structure. The site has been prepped, excavated, formed and reinforced with rebar. There will be large trucks on site pouring the cement foundation all day. The surface will be leveled and finished, allowing the concrete to harden over time.
The intersection of Main Street and Kelly Avenue is, and always has been, the geographical, commercial and social center of Half Moon Bay. The bank (City Hall), a park, the town general store (Cunha's) and the gas station created the hub for business and pleasure on the Coastside.
With the closing of the Cunha Brothers' Chevron Station in 2008 and the demolition, an important piece of the busy intersection was lost. But, as always, opportunity arose.
The Cardoni Family, Developer Tony Uccelli and Architect Ed Love collaborated to create a two building, mixed-use project that will revitalize the formally busy corner and make Main & Kelly the active hub of Half Moon Bay that once was.
The modern mediterranean Main Street building will have 2,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor with the primary entrance at the corner of Main & Kelly. The Main Street Building will feature modern Tuscany style windows with ceramic tile and wrought iron, recalling the Mediterranean Heritage of Half Moon Bay. Parking will be accessible from Johnston Street with walkable access through the Main Street walkway and the Kelly walkway connecting the adjoining streets.
The Kelly Avenue Townhouses are in the coastal craftsman style to blend with the adjacent neighborhoods. The first floor will feature two one-bedroom "flats" with street level accessible entry porches. Again, above, a pair of two story townhouses. The living levels will be entered by a bridge from the Main Street building. The living levels will feature an open living, dining, kitchen area and an "at home" office, powder room and broad balconies looking east to the hills. The townhouses on the upper level will have a master bedroom suite, a guest bedroom, a laundry room and views to the north, east and south.
The Kelly Avenue townhouses will provide a gracious opportunity to live "in-town" and enjoy the shops, restaurants and other amenities of downtown Half Moon Bay.
